Roger's Response Fom California

Hi Marina, I am fine in California, but had an adventure. I saw the question posted on the club web site, so I am responding. While in the Chicago airport on Monday, I learned that my brother's neighborhood was being evacuated. The plane to San Diego was packed, including some people returning with the hopes of checking on their property (but they would not be allowed into their neighborhoods). We ourselves spent two nights with friends of my sister-in-law in the Linda Vista neighborhood of San Diego (relatively near to the airport). Then Wed. afternoon we were allowed to return to the house in Carmel Valley. So we are fine, but many people are suffering. All schools and colleges closed all week. Air quality is bad from the smoke, which should continue about another week. I am getting some work done, though, even with the university closed. Most establishments are hoping to return toward normal on Monday. Best wishes to everyone at the bridge club. Roger Koeppe
